Mark Armstrong | Associate Producer, Digital News Bureau | Bird’s Eye View Productions

Since 2014, Mark Armstrong has found success as an associate producer of the digital news bureau at Bird’s Eye View Productions, a reputable media and news company based out of Chicago, Illinois. In this capacity, he is involved with the digital news unit, where his primary responsibilities include creating digital audio content and covering public affairs issues—particularly those related to the Chicago City Council and the Cook County Board of Commissioners. Additionally, he oversees all aspects of the public affairs segment of the company—across a wide range of projects, from commercials to news.

Beyond his primary endeavors, Mr. Armstrong has dedicated his time to the Chicago Urban Fine Arts Commonwealth—a nonprofit civic action organization—since 2016. Within the organization, his most significant achievement has been his successful efforts to secure rollbacks on amusement taxes—an initiative he spearheaded by working closely with the Cook County Board of Commissioners and Chicago City Council to ensure that nightlife establishments that rely on taxes would have adequate funds to cover their expenses and earn a reasonable profit. He considers this accomplishment a testament to his commitment to supporting local businesses. Always civic-minded, he strives to establish a genuine regional civic coalition in the North Central States and ultimately politically empower the Urban Fine Arts so members are not only attending hearings and voicing concerns but actively influencing legislation. He hopes to be instrumental in crafting legislation that positively impacts people’s lives.

An accomplished individual, Mr. Armstrong attributes his success to his unwavering perseverance and persistence; he’s always been determined to achieve his goals, even when faced with obstacles and challenges. Considering himself a lifelong learner, he earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications with a concentration in print journalism from Clark College in 1984, after which he worked at Citizen Newspaper Group for several years. Authoring articles that have been reprinted in books, he serves as a dedicated member of the Deep South Press Corps and the Illiana Union, a regional civic action partnership of CUFAC for Greater Chicagoland and the Napipolitan Urban Fine Arts Commonwealth for Greater Indianapolis. In addition, he serves as the co-founder of the National Time Forum think thank hosted by the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Black Cultural Center, which prepares urban fine arts heads to build a progressive nation with practical politics for the streets. He also studied through a competitive fellowship at the American Judicature Society.
